MDQ Cares for You – Monthly Charity Sewing Day
Join us for MDQ Cares for You, our monthly charity sewing day dedicated to creating quilts and sewn items that bring comfort to those in need within our community.
We meet the first Wednesday of every month, beginning January 7th, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at MDQ Designs. Come for the whole day or just part of it—every helping hand makes a difference.
What to Bring
Your sewing machine (if you plan to sew)
Basic quilting notions (rotary cutter, ruler, scissors, pins, etc.)
Fabric and project direction will be provided based on current needs.
Not a Sewer? You’re Still Needed!
You do not need to know how to sew to participate. There are always jobs available—cutting, pressing, organizing, assembling kits, or helping in other ways. Just show up, and we’ll put you to work!
Current Projects & Fabric Needs
At this event, MDQ Cares for You will be working on two projects:
Disappearing 9-Patch Quilts
5" squares are welcome
Coordinating fabrics are preferred but not required
You do not need to bring fabric, but if you have the fabrics required for our projects and you would like to donate them, please bring them with you.
For sewing this project, we will be using a regular straight stitch and a quarter inch seam allowance. The shop has rulers and rotary cutters available for use as well as pressing stations.
Walker & Wheelchair Bags
24" x WOF (width of fabric) fabric pieces or 2/3 yards of fabric
No specialty fabrics, please
Fabric must be uncut (no prior cuts made)
We will again be using a straight stitch and quarter inch seam allowance for this project, basic pattern reading skills required if sewing.
These guidelines help ensure consistency and allow us to assemble and finish projects efficiently.
Everyone Is Welcome
All skill levels are encouraged to attend. Whether you sew every day or have never touched a machine, MDQ Cares for You is about community, compassion, and caring together. We need help sorting fabric, writing thank you cards, pressing and organizing, it’s okay if you don’t sew or if you want to learn to sew, we will help you.
Led by Monica Aranci and Kari Gortemaker, with MDQ Designs serving as the main hub, classroom, and support space.
